Animal rights activists People For The Ethical Treatment Of Animals (PETA) have offered to pay soul legend Aretha Franklin's $19,000 tax bill if she agrees to stop wearing fur.
In a letter to the diva, Newkirk writes, "We would like to help you out by paying the approximately $19,000 in back taxes that you owe - if you'll agree to save animals from hideous suffering and death by promising never to wear fur again and donating your old furs to PETA,Our offer is a win-win situation: You get to keep your home, and animals get to keep their lives. We are rooting for you to please give animals the R-E-S-P-E-C-T that they deserve by giving up fur."
idk how i feel about this whole thing. aretha is the queen of soul, yet she was famous during the time when artists were really getting ripped off by their recourd labels and junk. i know she has been doing alot of shows recently in places like miani and new york. maybe she's tryna earn some money. she can prob. get that debt down to like pennies on the dollar if she jus sits down with the irs, givs a small concert, and makes luther burgers for everyone hehe! it's a totally publicity stunt on peta's part. i can see wanting to kinda help someone, buh the second she takes them up on the offer, it's gonna eb all over tv, magazines, the net. if u ask me, she shude hav a benefit concert where her famous frins come out and donate money. after that i say she shude get a good business manager and invest her money. make that money wuk for u girl!
